Nonfarm payrolls fell by 140,000 in December, the Labor Department said, against the Dow Jones consensus estimate for a 50,000 gain.
This was the first monthly drop since April. The job losses were significantly higher than expected. The restaurant industry was one of the sectors seeing a big loss.
