CNBC: China insists it is unaware of calls to Trump and says tariffs are ‘extreme pressure’ and ‘not constructive at all’
One day later, China is still insisting no phone calls took place over the weekend that President Donald Trump claimed showed its willingness to talk again.
At the G7 Trump remarked, “China called last night our top trade people and said ‘let’s get back to the table’ so we will be getting back to the table and I think they want to do something.” This helped boost the stock market, but now China officials seem to be saying it was a lie.
“I answered this question yesterday. Regarding the two calls mentioned by the U.S. side that took place over weekend, I haven’t heard about it.” -Geng Shuang, #China Foreign Ministry, declines to confirm high level U.S.-#China phone calls for a second day. @realDonaldTrump.
