Buzzfeed: House Democrats Push Major Gun Control Bills Forward Following The Mass Shootings In El Paso And Dayton
The House Judiciary Committee passed bills Tuesday night to expand background checks for gun sales and prevent those who are a danger to themselves and others from buying guns.
This will predictably go nowhere in the Senate. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi remarked:
Senator McConnell refuses to do his part to save lives.
No one’s political survival is more important than the survival of our children. Thousands of people, thousands of children, have died since Senator McConnell first refused to take up our bills.
We will fight on every front, in the courts, in the Congress and in the court of public opinion, to make sure this issue is too hot to handle for the GOP to block.
After another summer marked by gun violence, Americans have had enough of @SenateMajLdr McConnell’s waiting game. It’s time for him to finally allow a life-saving vote on House-passed legislation to expand background checks. #EndGunViolence pic.twitter.com/wk8tMiqMFS
