BI: A Florida city paid a $600,000 bitcoin ransom to hackers who took over its computers
Riviera Beach’s city council voted to pay the money after an attack in May disrupted services including its email network and 911 dispatch system.
This money will be paid by an insurance company, but it certainly raises a lot of questions about whether this was the right thing to do. Now the city will have to wait and see if the hackers actually provide a decryption key.
