Axios: NYC to require COVID vaccination or weekly testing for city workers
Why it matters: The announcement comes as COVID-19 cases have risen to more than 800 per day in the city, more than triple the daily average in June, the New York Times reports.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has announced that all municipal workers – including police officers, sanitation workers, and teachers – must receive a COVID-19 vaccination by September 13th or submit to weekly COVID-19 tests.
The requirement applies to 340,000 workers. The vaccination rate among police officers is especially low – 43% according to NY1.
Five million New Yorkers have already gotten jabbed, but nearly two million have not.
