AP: White House: Islamic State territory in Syria eliminated
All Islamic State-held territory in Syria has been”100 percent” eliminated, the White House announced Friday, though officials said sporadic fighting continues.
The remaining Islamic State fighters have reportedly been driven underground in the Syrian city of Baghouz and have vowed to fight to the death. But the White House may not be telling the full story.
“It isn’t defeated yet. It is on the brink of defeat,” @bencnn says in eastern Syria after the White House declared ISIS completely defeated.
“Until the guns go silent on this battlefield behind me, I’m afraid ISIS cannot be declared totally defeated.” https://t.co/FDsADdEucF pic.twitter.com/EPA5UnCZLq
