AP: Justice Ginsburg Says “Let’s Stop This Nonsense”
Decrying the politicization of judicial confirmation hearings, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said, “I think it will take great leaders on both sides of the aisle to say ‘Let’s stop this nonsense and start working for our country the way we should.'” The comments were made during an appearance at Roger Williams University School of Law in Rhode Island.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg is one of five Supreme Court justices who will skip the president’s speech tonight (the other RSVP no’s this year are Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, Anthony Kennedy, and Sonia Sotomayor.) But viewers who will miss seeing the now-“notorious” RBG can instead enjoy this write-up of a law-school appearance today. Among other choice comments, Ginsburg chided Congress for turning confirmation votes into partisan scrums, describing her colleagues Alito, Sotomayor, Elena Kagan and perhaps surprisingly Neil Gorsuch as “four fine justices who should have gotten overwhelming support but got many negative votes.” She also charmed the crowd by bragging about her bad-ass core workout.
