Kevin McCarthy Meeting With Donald Trump Today, Expected To Address January 6th Committee

Welcome

WASHINGTON, DC - APRIL 24: House Minority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and U.S. President Donald Trump attend a signing ceremony for H.R. 266, the Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act, in the Oval Office of the White House on April 24, 2020 in Washington, DC. The bill includes an additional $321 billion for the Paycheck Protection Programs forgivable loans to cover payroll and other costs for small businesses. Hospitals and other health care providers will receive $75 billion and another $25 billion is allocated for COVID-19 testing. (Photo by Anna Moneymaker/The New York Times/POOL/Getty Images)

Need proof Donald Trump is still pulling the strings? The former president has made it publicly known that House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is coming to meet with him today at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey. In a short statement released to the public, Trump simply said, “Much to discuss.” Politico writes:

Among the topics on the duo’s agenda, GOP sources said, are upcoming special elections, vulnerable House Democrats in the 2022 midterms and recent record-breaking party fundraising.

With the timing, it’s also a safe bet that Trump is helping McCarthy pick Republicans to serve on the January 6th select committee. Last week McCarthy backed down from a plan to boycott the panel.

Trump may want to add sycophants like Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene to the panel, but that most likely won’t fly with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi who has veto power over who takes part.

McCarthy has not confirmed the meeting.
