The House committees involved in the impeachment inquiry have asked former National Security Adviser John Bolton to testify on November 7th. If Bolton shows up he would be the highest level member of the Trump administration to do so. There’s a catch though. ABC News reporter Ben Siegel writes, “Bolton “is not willing to appear voluntarily” before Congress, per his attorney Chuck Cooper. “‘I stand ready at all times to accept service of a subpoena on his behalf.’”
House Foreign Affairs Chairman Eliot Engel said Wednesday that the committees have not yet issued a subpoena for Bolton to testify, but if Bolton does not appear voluntarily, it’s “something that we would consider.””I’ve always found him to be very straightforward and honest about what he believes,” the Democrat from New York said.
Earlier this month Fiona Hill, a former Russia adviser to Donald Trump, testified that Bolton had referred to “a rogue effort by Mr. (Gordon) Sondland, Mr. Giuliani and Mick Mulvaney” and that he remarked, “I am not part of whatever drug deal Sondland and Mulvaney are cooking up.”
Trump fired Bolton on Twitter on September 10th.
