The Unseating of “Virginia’s Chief Homophobe” and more wins from last night’s elections

Welcome

Perhaps not the biggest races in last night’s elections but some of the more interesting storylines….

In Virginia: The first openly transgender state lawmaker was elected to the Statehouse.  She unseated a 13-term incumbent who called himself “Virginia’s chief homophobe.”  Great read here from The Washington Post

In New Jersey: A New Jersey politician who made a snide remark about the Women’s March in Washington lost to a woman who was offended by it.  US News has the story.

In Maine: Voters approved a measure expanding Medicaid after the governor vetoed it.  Read the NPR story here.
