It’s cold in Texas, dangerously cold. Power is out to millions because the grid can’t handle the load. Natural disasters are like that. They can lead to massive losses of power. Hmmmm. We seem to remember not so long ago when Republicans in Texas chided those in California, criticizing Democratic leaders there for not being able to handle the wildfires. We seem to remember a Republican ex-president who withheld federal aid from the Democratic-run state.

Fast forward to February 2021 and it’s Texans who are suffering.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who has openly talked of secession, is on the phone to President Biden asking for help. Biden approves a disaster declaration, no politics, no quid pro quo.

In case Democrats in California have forgotten there was a lot of nonsense from loud Texans during the wildfires. Perhaps the lesson in the post-Trump era is that we work together.

We hope everyone remains safe, and as warm as possible. And we hope your power returns soonest. And when the weather warms, we hope those prominent Republicans will finally see the light.
