Facepalm of the Day: Woman Uses Fake ‘Maderna’ Vax Card to Enter Hawaii

Welcome

If only this fraudster had spellcheck.

24-year-old Chloe Mrozak, of Oak Lawn, Illinois, was arrested last week for using a fake COVID-19 vaccination card in order to enter Hawaii. The state requires visitors to provide proof of inoculation or a recent negative test. Otherwise, tourists are subject to a 10-day quarantine.

Mrozak was able to enter Hawaii using the bogus card, but secondary screeners working for the state’s Safe Travels Program flagged it after they discovered a glaring error – Moderna was incorrectly spelled ‘Maderna.’

Mrozak’s fake card indicated she was jabbed in Delaware, but health officials there could not find any indication that she got a shot.

The travel itinerary Mrozak submitted to the Safe Travels Program was also fake. But Hawaiian authorities found her social media profile and discovered she had a distinctive tattoo.

Hawaii’s KHON2 explains what happened next:

The [Quarantine Compliance Check Team] team located Mrozak on Aug. 28, based on her tattoo, at the Southwest Airlines counter where another woman was traveling with her.

She was arrested on suspicion of falsified vaccination documents on Aug. 28 at the airport before she could leave the island. Unable to post bail, the special agent reported that Mrozak was transported to Queen’s for COVID screening and later transferred to HPD. Bail was set at $2,000.

The Daily Beast writes, “If you’re going to go to the trouble of obtaining a fake vaccine card to travel instead of just getting a free and effective coronavirus shot, at least double-check the spelling.”
