Donald Trump’s Easter Immigration Rant Makes No Sense

Welcome

Early this morning Donald Trump began the holiday with a two-word positive tweet.  HAPPY EASTER (his caps.)  But then it went quickly downhill.  He blasted Democrats for the so-called catch and release program that allows immigrants from some Central American countries to gain entry into the U.S. while applying for asylum.  He also threatened no deal for the so-called “dreamers” and he threatened to pull out of the North American Free Trade Agreement or NAFTA.  And a happy Easter to you too!

Then it was off to Easter services where he again couldn’t stop talking about immigration.

Fact check:  To be eligible for DACA, you have to have been living in the U.S. since 2007.  No one arriving now would be covered by any deals currently in Congress.

So Donald Trump is lying or doesn’t know what he’s talking about or both.  So what is the “catch & release” program?  We recently visited the border in south Texas where we found many families and children traveling alone who had just arrived in America with the hope of gaining asylum from countries where gang violence is rampant.
