Donald Trump’s attendance at the G7 summit in Canada was short, but it wasn’t exactly sweet. In his less than 24 hours there he managed to make an already testy relationship with many of the leaders there even worse.

First on Friday, he showed up late to the summit missing a meeting with one of his biggest “allies.” Politico points out:

“Trump did little to hide his distaste for the summit from the outset — arriving late to the summit on Friday and missing his first scheduled meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron.”

Then Saturday morning he showed up late to the Women’s Empowerment Breakfast, interrupting one speaker who was addressing the crowd when he walked in.

New York Magazine reports:

“Trump threw in straight-up rudeness to his list of offenses, showing up conspicuously late to a meeting assembled by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on the topic of women’s empowerment — which, admittedly, is not high on Trump’s list of concerns.

Trump missed Trudeau’s introductory statement at the meeting and entered the room while council co-chair Isabelle Hudon, who is Canada’s ambassador to France, was speaking.

His arrival was impossible to miss as security personnel had to open a path for Trump through a mob of journalists, many of whom were holding large cameras.”

Then Trump went on a rant about ending what he calls “unfair” trade practices. Huff Post says:

“Speaking to reporters at the annual G-7 meeting, the president said that totally eliminating trade barriers between the nations would be ‘the ultimate thing’ and ‘that’s the way it should be.’ He called many current tariffs on U.S. goods and services ‘ridiculous.’

‘We’re like the piggy bank that everybody’s robbing ― and that ends,’ the president said.

He later said, ‘It’s going to stop, or we’ll stop trading with them. And that’s a very profitable answer, if we have to do it.'”

And during a brief q & a with reporters, Trump even managed to repeatedly bash the media throwing around one of his favorite terms, “fake news.”

As for Trump’s last move that rubbed leaders the wrong way? He left the G7 early before one of the weekend’s most important discussions took place. A topic that isn’t big with Trump, climate.

CNN reports:

“…he departed before the summit officially concludes, skipping the section focused on climate change and the environment and sending an aide in his place.

Trudeau had arranged for the climate section to be a chief accomplishment of this year’s G7, which occurs in a different members’ country each year.”
