It’s down to the wire for Conor Lamb (D) and Rick Saccone (R), but today a poll is out that has some members of the GOP party worried. Donald Trump carried Pennsylvania’s 18th congressional district by 20% back in 2016. Now according to a new Monmouth University poll, “Lamb holds a 51% to 45% lead over Saccone if turnout yields a Democratic surge similar to voting patterns seen in other special elections over the past year.”
Lamb is a 33-year-old former federal prosecutor and Marine Corps captain. While he is a Democrat he leans toward the Conservative side on some key issues. This might have something to do with his appeal and poll numbers. For instance, ABC reports that he supports affordable health care, but opposes abortion. In his last few days, Lamb has campaigned to secure the backing of mine workers and secured their unlikely endorsement (given Trump’s recent tariffs on imports of steel).

As for Lamb’s opponent, Saccone is a longtime politician who has had both Donald Trump and Mike Pence campaign for him. Today The Pittsburgh Gazette snapped this photo of Donald Trump Jr. doing a last-minute campaign push for the 60-year-old as well.

A lot of Tuesday’s election is contingent on voter turnout. Snow is in the forecast so that could impact the number of people heading to vote. Polls open at 7 am.
