He is a 38-year-old man named Jarrod Ramos, who had allegedly sued the Capital Gazette newspaper back in 2012.  He was reportedly identified by facial recognition software.

Police are calling it a “targeted attack.”  Ramos allegedly opened fire with a shotgun at the offices of the newspaper, killing five and wounding three before being apprehended by police.  According to the Associated Press:

“[The] rampage at The Capital Gazette followed social media threats directed at the newspaper. Authorities said the man entered the building and “looked for his victims.” He threw smoke grenades and fired a shotgun at his victims, according to Anne Arundel County Acting Police Chief William Krampf.”

Meanwhile the Capital Gazette will be published on Friday.  Even with the horrific happenings of today, reporters and editors were still on the job tonight;

More information will be posted as it become available.
