We are learning this week hasn’t only been hard on Senator Bernie Sanders due to his heart attack, but also due to the death of his daughter-in-law Rainè Riggs. An obituary written by family reads, in part:

Rainè became ill three weeks ago. The hospitals were stumped. We brought her home last Sunday to UPMC, where she was diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer. She died two days later. Her last words were to tell her children how much she loved them and she was so sorry that she got sick. Her last moment was spent with her No. 1 cheerleader, her mother, holding her hand and whispering in her ear how much she loved her.

Meanwhile, Sanders says his own health scare is causing him to reassess. He says he will be “actively campaigning,” but will “change the nature of the campaign a bit to make sure I have the strength to do what I have to do.” He says this will most likely mean fewer rallies and town halls.

Sanders has no planned events until the Democratic debate on October 15th.
