Senator Ted Cruz is in self-quarantine after revealing he came in contact with someone at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) who tested positive for coronavirus. In a statement, Cruz says he had a “brief conversation and a handshake” with the individual. And though he is “not experiencing any symptoms” he will remain in his “home in Texas this week, until a full 14 days have passed since the CPAC interaction.”
Congressman Paul Gosar (R-AZ) also says he and 3 senior staff members are under quarantine after a similar interaction at CPAC.
Meanwhile, NBC News reports that all this news has many members of Congress nervous:
Members of Congress are becoming increasingly anxious about coronavirus, and there is growing pressure on leadership to take steps to protect lawmakers — even potentially recessing for a period of weeks — two Democratic congressional sources said Sunday.
Multiple sources said anxiety was on the rise among lawmakers as more cases are reported and the virus spreads.
NBC goes on to say that “Members plan to raise concerns with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., at their weekly leadership meeting Monday afternoon, two sources said.”
