There was good news Wednesday for millions of fans of the TV game show “Jeopardy!” — and for millions more worried about cancer and how it can be treated.
In fact, says “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek, it’s “mind boggling.”
Trebek told People magazine that less than three months after he went public with word he has stage-4 pancreatic cancer, he is now in “near remission,” with some of his tumors having “shrunk by more than 50 percent.”
Pancreatic cancer has a 5-year survival rate of just 9 percent.
Trebek, 79, has undergone an intensive series of chemotherapy treatments, and there are more to come before the cancer might to into full remission.
But his doctors are amazed at the success so far.
Trebek believes support from his show’s many fans must have helped.
“I’ve got a couple million people out there who have expressed their good thoughts, their positive energy directed towards me and their prayers,” he told People.
“I told the doctors, this has to be more than just the chemo, and they agreed it could very well be an important part of this.”
