It’s hard to look at the town of Paradise, California and see anything but destruction. The mayor, Jody Jones, is doing her best to see a town with a future. Most of the town is gone. 90% of the structures in Paradise burned to the ground in the Camp Fire, but Jones says:
“Paradise was not the buildings that were here, it’s the people. So I don’t want to lose my community, my friends. It was a special unique community and we can get that back and that’s what Paradise is all about.”
Before the fires, Jones admits her $300 a month job as mayor of this small town was mostly clerical, but now she is working around the clock to make sure this town gets back on its feet.
“We are going to live in Chico and help build the town back and then we are going to move back in and live in a new house… and have spaces for businesses to open back up.”
Jones discussed this with Mercury News. Watch what else she said above.
