It seems like Donald Trump is stuck in the middle of two worlds. He is getting pressure, even by members of his own party, to take take a hardline approach with Saudi Arabia. But he can’t help but defend Saudi Arabia whenever Jamal Khashoggi comes up. Today in the Oval Office he said he wants to find out who is at fault in the murder of the journalist. But instead of just talking about the brutal killing he spent most of the time singing the Saudis praises saying:

“Saudi Arabia has been a very important ally of ours in the Middle East.”

Trump was also asked if he is considering getting the FBI involved in the investigation into what happened to which he replied, in part: “Well he wasn’t a citizen of this country.”

Meanwhile, the New York Times is reporting:

His killers were waiting when Jamal Khashoggi walked into the Saudi consulate in Istanbul two weeks ago. They severed his fingers and later beheaded and dismembered him, according to details from audio recordings described by a senior Turkish official on Wednesday.

Mr. Khashoggi was dead within minutes, and within two hours the killers were gone, the recordings suggested.

Trump says he has asked for a copy of the audio, but at the same time seemed to question whether it is real saying “We have asked for it, if it exists.”

Watch what else he said above.
