Ukrainian forces have repelled the Russian advance. The capital city of Kyiv remains in government control. The Washington Post writes:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that fighting continues in many cities across the country and that the fate of the nation is “being decided right now.” He posted a video of himself at daybreak Saturday, unshaven, on the capital’s streets, appearing resolved to remain in Kyiv even though Western officials have warned that Russia plans to capture or kill him. He said in a video posted at midday that Ukraine was “successfully repelling” the Russian attacks.

The United States offered to evacuate Zelensky, but he remains defiant, choosing to stay for the battle of his country.

The fight is here. I need ammunition, not a ride.

The Wall Street Journal adds:

Firefights erupted in several areas of Kyiv, including the center, throughout the night into Saturday morning. Ukrainian officials said Russian saboteur groups were trying to operate in the Ukrainian capital.

President Volodymyr Zelensky urged Ukrainians to keep fighting and denied Russian reports that he had called on his forces to lay down arms. “Truth is on our side. This is our land, our country, our children, and we will keep defending them all,” he said. “Glory to Ukraine.”
