It shouldn’t be surprising that today’s passage of the Biden Administration’s historic coronavirus relief bill would rankle a certain ex-President residing in Palm Beach.
It should also not be at all surprising that Donald Trump would try to make today about himself. Since he’s banned from tweeting, he decided to issue yet another statement, his primary source of communication these days. This one seeks to take credit for the vaccine rollout by the current administration, which is currently doling out more than two million vaccinations each day.
According to the CDC’s COVID Data Tracker, more than 95 million vaccinations have already been administered. Biden’s promise to have 100 million vaccines given in his first 100 days in office looks more promising by the day, which is great news for all of us who are ready to see life return to normal.
For everyone, it seems, except Trump.
Despite the fact his administration bungled the vaccine rollout and the PPE dispersal, that its vaccine reserve didn’t actually exist, that it failed to issue federal mask mandates or even implement the Defense Production Act, and despite the fact that Trump received the vaccine in January AND DIDN’T TELL ANYONE, thereby blowing a shot at perhaps motivating the MAGA base to get the vaccine, Trump now wants everyone to thank him for the, and we quote, “beautiful” vaccine shot. This tweet rather sums it up well.
Oh, and there’s that little matter of more than a half million dead Americans.
And we should add this: it would be easy to ignore Trump statements, but the ex-president is clearly setting himself up for a comeback. Actually he wants to extract revenge first, then a comeback. Regardless, if he still controls the GOP, it’s difficult to completely ignore him, sour grapes and all.
