The Biden administration is reinstating a COVID related travel ban. It’s also expanding it. The ban will include travelers from Brazil and 26 countries in Europe including the UK and Ireland. In addition, Reuters reports “Biden will impose a ban on most non-U.S. citizens entering the country who have recently been in South Africa starting Saturday in a bid to contain the spread of a new variant of COVID-19, a senior U.S. public health official told Reuters.”

Former President Donald Trump imposed similar restrictions on travelers from Brazil and Europe, but ordered those bans be lifted two days before his term ended.
Biden’s order rescinds that decision, marking the new administration’s more stringent approach to coronavirus policies moving forward. It also follows early signs that Biden planned to turn back Trump’s attempts to open U.S. borders to foreign travelers amidst the still-raging pandemic.
