There were so many things wrong with Donald Trump’s Friday night news conference at his resort in Bedminster, New Jersey. First, the “press conference” was filled with members of his club, most of whom weren’t wearing masks. But the most ridiculous part has to be this announcement he made about health insurance:

“Over the next two weeks, I’ll be pursuing a major executive order requiring health insurance companies to cover all preexisting conditions for all customers. That’s a big thing. I’ve always been very strongly in favor. We have to cover preexisting conditions… this has never been done before.”

One problem, covering pre-existing conditions was actually part of the Affordable Care Act signed into law more than a decade ago and a policy the Trump administration is currently fighting in court. The Hill points out:

Despite Trump’s insistence he will protect those with preexisting conditions, the Justice Department argued in a Supreme Court briefing in late June that the entire Affordable Care Act should be invalidated.

Adding an extra layer to this bizarre announcement is the fact that some of Trump’s biggest supporters, people who have railed against the Affordable Care Act for years, are now acting like cheerleaders for this part of the policy.
