Michael Bloomberg is getting back into politics (sort of). The United Nations secretary general appointed the former New York City mayor to be a special envoy for climate action.

In a press release, a United Nations representative wrote, “The Secretary-General and Mr. Bloomberg share the perspective that the emissions gap needs to be closed soon to limit global temperature increase to below 2 degrees Celsius.”

Bloomberg’s official website has a page dedicated to climate change where the billionaire says:

“Protecting the environment isn’t just an investment in the future – it also brings immediate public health and economic benefits. Climate change endangers people’s health and poses serious economic risks. So does declining ocean health. Pollution from coal power plants is the biggest contributor to our carbon footprint and cause hundreds of thousands of deaths every year. By acting boldly to address these threats, we can improve millions of lives today – and build a safer, healthier future for the generations to come.”
